Jasmine flowering in my writing studio
Our cats are ardent fans of succulents and crinkly leaves. The Jasmine above, now out of tooth range in my studio, opened within days of escaping the silver tabby below. Sophia, eight-years-old, born in a horse barn, now a fan of fiction and flora.

I’ll begin with a question: what is the truth of your life? I ran into a version of this ponder in Write Naked by Jennifer Probst. In a chapter about theme, she asked writers to consider the overall truth of their book or series. (Link to Write Naked below.)  It’s a question I contemplate during plotting, and every draft or revision. In answer, my mind whispered, what about the overall truth of your life? I’ve pursued so many things by asking this question: ‘What will it take to (fill in your own blank.) Go to college. Graduate. Make a living. Make a life. Tell a story of hope and courage or about the unknowable. Find a safe and joyous place where two people become one, yet don’t lose their personal compass. My answer revealed a continuity that suggested my personal and writing themes are ‘against all odds.’ I write ‘underdogs,’ battling for love and justice. Give this question a mull. If so inclined, let me know what your life theme is.

I hope you’ll check out Iridesce, the first book in Day Without Dawn, my epic dark fantasy romance series rooted in the myth and mysticism of ancient cultures. At times dark, the story unfolds with ample humor, romance, and everything coming of age entails. The series celebrates humanity’s ability to live an honorable life filled with love and adventure. It’s a story of found family, lovers in multiple lifetimes, and the price exacted by destiny and prejudice. Iridesce is perfect for readers who love Sabaa Tahir’s An Ember in the Ashes series and The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater.

If you love Iridesce and would like to beta read Luminesce, the second book in the series, use the button below to email me. I’ll add your name to my list and reach out when it’s ready to read.

After all, what is life without people to share it with?

Another view of that rainbow.
